Planing- Templates

After finishing my rough designs for my magazine I wanted to improve theses and develop them further therefore I constructed them on to Power Point and created templates. I designed 3 different front covers testing what colours scheme I should use and positions of text. I also did the same for my contents page and double page spread. I am then going to get qualtive feedback and find out what my target audience prefer, which will help me later on in the construction process of my magazine pages.

As I am going to ask a focus grope on what their options are of my templates I have given a variety of colours that they can choses from.  One option I considered is red and purple and another is black, blue and purple. As my music magazine is representing indie music the colours I have chosen are not too bright therefore fitting my mode of address as it is not mainstream therefore will be able to relate to the magazine. Also with the colour red and black it is very similar to the NME and Q magazine which are under the same demographic and they target the same audience as my magazine. I have added the colour purple as I am targeting my magazine at females it adds a sense of femininity without being to girly this fits my mode of address as my target audience are not too girly, also  I will need to nwash  myself from other indie music magazines such as the NME as they predominantly target their magazines at males therefore my female audience will feel they can relate and identify my band.  Therefore I will be appealing to my target audience.

Front Page- Template

As I had been doing a lot of research I could add in a lot of conventions that I have found in the researching process from exciting media products. These conventions include; banners, mastheads, feature stories, barcode, main image date and price, I created 4 pages with different colours and positions of feature stories to give my focus grope a variety of choses to choses from and give me feedback and their opinions after these results I could come up with a final decision, and start the construction of my own music magazine pages.

Contents Page- Templates
For my contents page I have also used many conventions that i found in my research process. These conventions include; page numbers, issue number, picture and stories. The most common convention I found when researching existing magazines was that contents pages are titled ‘Contents’ and also the contents page are full of images this can be seen in the NME and Q magazine. As these magazine have similar target audience and demographic as I do I have decide to base my contents page with lots of images I also believe it makes the contents page look entertaining and easier to navigate. I created 3 contents templates with different colours and styles.
 Double Page Spread- Templates
For my double page spread I have also used conventions that I f have found out during the research process of this task. These conventions include; 3 columns, drop capitals, quotes, and lot of images of my feature arties from my front cover. For my double page spread I designed 3 templates with different colour schemes and different styles.

Preliminary Task

I have been asked to create a preliminary task to complete I needed to construct a school magazine, this magazine had to be constructed and coded to a specific target audience and have the right mode of address, I constructed a front cover and a contents page. Form my preliminary task magazine I decide to call it notebook as it fits in with my target audience which is targeted at  students studding there A-Levels , by doing this task it has helped me gain a knowledge and understanding on the cods and conventions for a magazine. I designed my pages on Microsoft Publisher.

Brief

In order to construct my magazine I needed to do a number of things involving researching such as secondary and primary research I had to analysis existing media products and identify the cods and conventions this therefore enabled me to construct my magazine. I also had to construct a number of different draft pages and ask a focus group which they preferred, this helped me come to a decision on how I wound construct my magazine. I have been given a preliminary task to complete I needed to construct a school magazine, this magazine had to be constructed and coded to a specific target audience and have the right mode of address, I constructed a front cover and a contents page.
I started my research by constructing existing text of media products to show my understanding and knowledge of the codes and conventions that make up a magazine therefore allowing me to use them in the construction stage of my magazine. I then created a qualitative on-line survey to find out my targeted audience, demographics, needs and aspirations. As I wanted my questionnaire to be varied had to ask a large amount of people therefore I posted it on social media websites like Facebook and twitter where I got a large response from my targeted audience. This helped me in the planning and construction stage due to the fact that I knew who I was going to aim my magazine at and find my mode of address. By the end of the process I was able to create an audience profile was I have put together images along with statistics which displayed my audience dislike, like dreams, and hobby’s.

Before I started the construction process of my magazine pages I needed to ask a focus group of my target audience what they throughout of my magazine idea to help me come to a final decision. In order to do this I created 2-3 templates of a front cover, double page spread and contents page.

I then moved on to constructing a range of different mastheads for my magazine on a planning sheet I also designed my front page, contents page and double page spread with annotations of the codes and conventions. This researched combined with my magazine templates it gave me a good knowledge and understanding of what I wanted my magazine pages to look like. I then started to plan my photographs of the models I was going to use as I have done a lot of planning I researched into existing text I knew my photographs  where important as they needed to fit the mode of address for my magazine and appeal to my target audience so my audience could identify the magazine brand.
At the end of my research and planning I need to present my work therefore I  pitched all of my qualitative and quantitative research therefore enabling me to have an understanding of my audience demographic.

I have been asked to create a photography document to give detail on where I took my photographs and any hazard that would of occurred. Therefore I have enabled that the photo-shoot has taken in a safe place.

After I finished all of my research and planning I could start constructing and designing my four pages for my magazine with my own photography’s

To finish my  project I have answered 8 evaluation questions discussing who I would distribute my magazine to and If I have codes my pages in a way that can be identified by my target audience. I also have created the right mode of address for my target audience.

Research: Quantitative Data

I created a questionnaire on Question pro to find out my target audience this helped me find my mode of address for my magazine as I knew what my audience liked and disliked, also i knew their personality, dreams and aspirations. therefore allowing me to come to a dissension on who my demographic would be.

From my results of my question I came to the conclusion that my magazine will be targeted at females ages 17-21 who enjoy indie music and festivals. my magazine will be  like the NME but targeted mostly at females instead of males. My audience profile shows what my demographics interests are which allows me to get the mode of address for magazine.
